Your credit card
Several cards include emergency medical coverage, often limited to a number of days per trip and subject to an age cap. Coverage sometimes requires the trip to have been paid with the card.
Your group plan
Some employer plans include travel coverage, with their own limits and their own definition of stability. It generally ends with employment, including at retirement.
The public plan
It reimburses care received outside Quebec at Quebec tariffs, not at the actual bill, and does not cover repatriation. That gap is precisely what travel insurance fills.
What is left to verify
The days covered, the age cap, the stability period required, and whether cancellation and interruption are included. Add up what you have before buying; then buy what is missing.
